Rowan Atkinson might have made his worldwide fame through the character “Mr. Bean”, but it is his McLaren F1 that has made this celebrity a different kind of star in the eyes of petrolheads. With only 106 units ever produced, he does not only own a rare car as it is also one of the fastest production car the world have ever seen.
And after owning the car for almost 20 years, he felt that it is finally time to say goodbye to this magnificent piece of engineering. And it certainly did not take long for the F1 to find a new home as the London-based dealer Taylor & Crawley announced that the chassis #61 car was sold for an undisclosed price tag, but it is close to the £8 million (RM 46 million) asking price.
To the common man’s eyes, this deal might sound a bit crazy as Atkinson originally paid £ 640,000 (RM 3.685 million) for the supercar and it is also worth noting that the car suffered two accidents, in which one of them was very severe. But the repairs done to the car was not the work of some backalley workshop as it was the boys from Surrey who had patched up the car into perfect running condition. And maybe it is worth mentioning that it took one year to rebuild the car and it came with a repair bill of £ 910,000 (RM 5.239 million)!
Atkinson had covered almost 66,000km in the F1 which shows that this is no garage queen. We really hope that the new owner will drive the car out like Atkinson used to do, minus the crashing part of course.
