After an amazing performance at the opening round of the 2015 Malaysian Championship Series, Proton R3 Motorsports is back once again to extend their lead in the second round of the series. Although the team enjoyed quite an advantage against their rivals in the first round, such is no indication that Round 2 will be a walk in the park.
Having won the previous round, Fariqe Hairumann and James Veerapen in the Proton Preve R3 would now have to carry an extra 30kg of weight ballast as according to the regulations. As tough as it may be, the duo managed to overcome the weight issue and clocked the fastest time in the qualifying session with a 2:35.030, earning them the pole position in the MTC category.
Syafiq Ali in the Suprima S will start beside his teammate, having qualified second with a 2:35.275.
But luck seems to be siding with Syafiq for Round 2 as Fariqe experienced a slight issue during the starting of the race, allowing the Suprima S to glide through and lead the race. Skilfully avoiding the opening lap incident at Turn 3, the Proton R3 duo held their lead while being pursued by Fitra Eri from Team Sakura Tedco Racing in the Satria Neo.
From that point on, everything went pretty much straight forward. With a flawless pit stop for both the cars, they maintained the pace and position all the way to the chequered flag. If any of you are wondering, both of the cars are still allowed to race each other, given that they do not take each other out. It is a team effort to reach the finishing line and for the time being they would like to focus on collecting the points for the team and drivers.
