They had probably planned to take the covers off this new hot hatch somewhere close to the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed but due to an early leak, Peugeot figured that it is just better to play along with it. Now for the world to see is the new 308 GTi and Peugeot has been kind enough to release some of the specs as well.
Powering the new 308 GTi is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine pushing out either 250PS or 270PS, but both comes with a maximum torque figure of 330Nm and power is sent to the front wheels exclusively via a six-speed manual gearbox. Tipping the scales at 1,205kg, zerotohundred takes only 6.2 seconds while the more powerful variant does it 0.2 seconds quicker.
Fitted with 18-inch alloys, the 270PS version gets 19-inch rims and a Torsen limited-slip differential as well. The car sits 11mm lower and has received an updated power steering as well as some chassis upgrades and the driver also has the option to completely turn off the ESP. With its low kerb weight, Peugeot claims the 308 GTi only consumes 6 litres of petrol every 100km.
On the outside, the 308 GTi has a more aggressive look compared to the GT and could be distinguished by its glossy black rear diffuser and dual exhaust tips, bigger vents, extended side skirts and glossy black front grille. One could also not miss the red calipers hiding behind the rims, clamping down the 380mm front/268mm rear discs.
