Looks like the Audi TT will soon be looking over its shoulders as Mercedes-Benz has been rumoured to have an entry-level front-wheel drive sports car to rival the TT. And what is interesting is that Mercedes will source the platform from the next-generation A-class for this new model.
Since this rival is still in the planning stage, Mercedes has yet to release a lot of information regarding the model. But since it is aimed against the TT and BMW’s 2-Series, one would expect Mercedes to adopt some sleek styling features found in the company’s bigger coupes, which of course includes the Mercedes AMG GT.
There are also a wide range of engines the model could be powered with, coming from a range of updated four-cylinder petrol, diesel, or even hybrid power units. But the most exciting of them all will definitely be the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine by AMG which with 400-horsepower and mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, zerotohundred could be achieved in less than 4.5 seconds and will reach a limited top speed of 250km/h.
