We are not sure what was in McLaren’s mind when they produced the F1 in such limited numbers but if it was to keep its exclusivity, they had definitely succeeded in doing that. As a result, the F1 is one of the most sought after cars there is in the world and with just over 100 specimens were built, you can expect them to sell like hot cakes once one appears in the market.

If the one driven by Rowan Atkinson was sold in excess of USD 12 million (RM 50.51 million) recently, then one that has a better service record would definitely fetch a higher price tag. Such was proven at the recent Monterey Auctions where one of the last F1s built was auctioned off at a mind-boggling price tag of USD 13.75 million (RM 57.88 million) which is also the highest figure one had ever paid for a McLaren F1.

This particular example started off its life as the #073 chassis and is one of the 64 regular road F1 cars produced. However, the mysterious owner went back to McLaren and commissioned them to upgrade the car to LM specifications. This means the car will get more power and more downforce. And what further makes this car unique is that it has the upgrades of the LM cars but retains the creature comforts of the regular F1.

The 6.1-liter V12 engine in this example was rated at 691-horsepower, similar to the iconic F1 GTRs that raced in Le Mans and at the same time dominated it back in 1995. Aside from the extra cooling and downforce, about 130 pounds of weight was also shaved off. Zerotohundred takes less than 4 seconds and the extra downforce brought down its top speed from 386km/h to about 362km/h.
