With the new F-Type rumbling out from the production lines, we would have thought that this sporty coupe will be the candidate when Jaguar announced that they are returning into the world of motorsports. Unfortunately we would have to wait for such a thing to happen as the platform they are entering is actually the FIA Formula E Championship.

Jaguar is taking the opportunity of their entry in the only global electric-powered single-seater car championship in order to further develop their future EV powertrains and battery technology. Jaguar is currently in the works of developing an all-electric crossover which according to some rumours will offer 482km of driving range.

“Electric vehicles will absolutely play a role in Jaguar Land Rover’s future product portfolio and Formula E will give us a unique opportunity to further our development of electrification technologies. The Championship will enable us to engineer and test our advanced technologies under extreme performance conditions,” said Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Director for Jaguar Land Rover.

Williams Advanced Engineering will be Jaguar’s technical partner in their Formula E team, the same company which helped them in the development of the C-X75 plug-in hybrid supercar concept.

“We are delighted to welcome Jaguar into Formula E. Jaguar is a brand with a rich sporting heritage and the fact that it is returning to global motorsport with Formula E is a huge endorsement of the championship and its ability to influence the development of electric cars,” said Alejandro Agag, Chief Executive Officer for Formula E.
