Husna and teammates YC Foo, Jun and Nasharuddin prep up for S1K weekend!

The Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race has always been of the highlight events that we look forward to cover annually. Hosting a wide range of cars that one usually sees on the streets like the Proton Satria Neo and the Honda Civic FD2R, Sepang 1000KM Race is the platform where both factory teams and privateers test their skills to see who can last the gruelling 1000KM or as a big plus, win it at the same time.

Which is why our attention turned to this #15 blue Satria Neo participating this weekend as from their four-driver line-up, one of them is one of the few active female racers we have seen locally; Nurul Husna Nasharuddin.

A bit of background on the #15 Neo, the car was actually a used Satria Neo Clubsport acquired by Jun Yee and partner-in-crime YC Foo who share the vision of building a track car and compete in an actual race event. With limited budget and time constrains, they made their Sepang 1000KM debut back in 2012 but unfortunately was not classified since they were not able to achieve 75-percent of the 181 laps required.

But that was not the end as they entered Sepang 1000KM again the following year and with a better build this time, they managed to finish P10 overall. The 2014 edition of the Sepang 1000KM was even better for them as despite having their engine blowing up during free practice, Husna’s father Nasharuddin was kind enough to loan them an engine which made it through qualifying and to the chequered flag to grab P9.

10801952_578892702244387_7780159103578670422_nIt is in 2014 as well when Husna was offered the chance to compete in Sepang 1000KM for the first time, but it was not her first time sitting in the cockpit of a race car. Being exposed to speed since 11, she got a gift from her dad which most of us dream upon every night; a proper race car in the form of a smurf blue Honda Civic EF.

Obviously getting the green light from her dad and family members as well, Husna then got the grips and proper guidance on the basics of racing from Admi Shahrul. Since then, she has been entering a number of races and at the same time being recognized as well, like in 2012 when she was awarded the Rookie of the Year by the Asia Classic Car Challenge.

Aside from being offered a race seat in Sepang 1000KM 2014 as mentioned earlier, she also received sponsorship by Dream Chaser Privanet Malaysia to compete in the 2015 Malaysia Championship Series. Proving her worth by grabbing the Speed King award at our recent ZEROTOLOSE, her talents certainly did not go unnoticed as she was once again invited by Jun Yee and YC Foo to join their Sepang 1000KM assault.

Although she does not really have a specific plan on where to head on in motorsports, she is currently planning on a program that aims to bring more women into the motorsports scene which will take place somewhere next year. But that does not mean Husna is not a girl with a dream as instead of going to the usual Formula 1 route, she is actually very interested in having a go in the V8 Supercars series!

So if you have nothing planned for this weekend, why not come down to Sepang International Circuit and show your support to the #15 Satria Neo? The car will be driven by Jun Yee, YC Foo, Husna Nasharuddin and Nasharuddin Abd Aziz throughout the race.
