The Dodge Viper itself is already an insane machine from factory, being powered by a massive 8.4-liter V10 that pushes out 640-horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed Tremec manual transmission. But is Dodge finished in fiddling with the Viper? Not even close as they recently unveiled one that can perform on both the streets and the track.
Say hello to the new 2016 Viper American Club Racer or ACR. Designed to be the fastest street-legal track Viper ever made, this car features significant aerodynamic and suspension upgrades, new Carbon Ceramic brakes with six piston calipers and high-performance tires which were designed specifically for the ACR.
The ACR is also offered with an optional Extreme Aero package which is claimed to produce the highest aerodynamic downforce of any production car. During on-track testing, the engineers have recorded nearly 1 ton of downforce at the top speed of 285km/h.
This package comes with a 1,876mm wide adjustable rear wing, rear carbon fiber diffuser, a unique SRT hood with removable louvers, detachable extension for the front splitter and four dive planes. This Extreme Aero package is quoted by Dodge to deliver more than three times the downforce of the Viper Time Attack 2.0 package.
With the new Brembo Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes that offer “unprecedented brake fade resistance” and greater handling capability, the Kumho Ecsta V720 tires also help the ACR go faster by 1.5 seconds compared to normal tires. The double-adjustable coilover Bilstein race shocks are also designed specifically for the ACR and provide more than 76mm of ride height adjustment.
The 640 horses produced by the 8.4-liter V10 are more than enough for the ACR to gallop around, and no changes were made to the torque figure or the six-speed Tremec manual transmission.
