A while back, there were rumours that BBC are already on its legs to find an immediate replacement of the Top Gear hosts since Jeremy Clarkson has been sacked and both Richard Hammond and James May refused to appear on the show without their mate. While names like Philip Glenister, Guy Martin and Jodie Kidd did appeared as the potential candidates, the confirmed presenter is none of those.

Despite denying the early rumours that he is a possible pick for the next presenter, it has now finally made official. Leading the new Top Gear will be the 49-year-old Chris Evans and he has signed a three-year contract with the BBC and production of the new episodes will start very soon.

“I’m thrilled, Top Gear is my favourite programme of all time. Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless. When in fact, it’s anything but and that’s the genius of Top Gear’s global success,” said Evans.

Obviously, those are some big shoes that Evans has to fill in, but he is looking forward in keeping the Top Gear spirit alive and not messing it up for the fans. “I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward.”

So what is your take on this new presenter BBC has chosen in leading Top Gear? Obviously he will not be another Clarkson, but can he bring a persona that fills in the gap left by the previous presenters without upsetting the existing fans of the show?
