After the departure of some big names from the World Rally Championship, a lot were left wondering if the sport will be as lively as it was before. Certainly they did not have to wait long as Volkswagen fielded their Polo R WRC with incredible results, Hyundai is also in the game with the i20 WRC. And now, we heard some reports that Toyota is not going to sit around and watch as they are now testing a Yaris WRC car.
“A lot of excitement in the rally world today about the TMG Yaris WRC. Maybe you read about a test. No official photos of the car in the near future (sorry!), but we’ve already shown the 1.6-liter turbo engine, designed and built at TMG, so why not take another look?”
Posted together with this message on Toyota Motorsport GmbH’s Facebook page are a couple of images showing their ‘Global Race Engine’ which apparently will be the power plant of the Yaris WRC. The engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and was previewed in the Yaris Hybrid-R concept car.
