The new Renault Sport RS 01 has been gaining attention mainly for its cool looks and the Nissan-sourced twin-turbocharged V6 engine pushing out over 500-horsepower. Described as a “marriage between the beauty of Renault DeZir and the performance of formula Renault 3.5”, the RS 01 came into spotlight once again as it recently made its first public debut.

Appearing at the Jerez Circuit in front of 58,000 spectators, the stealthy matte black RS 01 race car was piloted by former Formula 1 champion Alain Prost. The RS 01 will be making more appearances in 2015 in the Renault Sport Trophy, a new championship of the World Series by Renault.

“The Renault Sport RS01 is magnificent, and that’s important in terms of image. This is a new step forward for Renault, since it is launching what is actually a typical Endurance car. It’s a real race car, while being closely linked to the product since its design was largely inspired by the new production models,” said Prost.

Rally legend Jean Ragnotti and Red Bull Formula 1 driver Sebastien Buemi also had a go in the new race car, which had already covered over 3,000km on various tracks. However, development is still in progress and the first customer deliveries will only commence in March 2015, followed by its racing debut at Spa-Francorchamps in mid-2015.
