In an interesting turn of events, the joint venture between Renault and Caterham in producing the Alpine sports car is not going as well as it was planned earlier. Although they were supposed to be working together in the project, it seems that Renault has taken a drastic measure by buying out the remaining stake held by Caterham in the Alpine business.

According to Renault, the arrangement to buyout Caterham has been made by mutual consent, and there are still room for both the companies to work together in the future. It has been known for some time that the agreement between Renault and Caterham to share a platform for a small sports car has not been going that well, and the buyout confirms the situation.

With the acquisition of the remaining stakes, the partnership signed in November 2012 has been brought to an end. The car will still be built by Renault under the Alpine brand but it will no longer be sold as a Caterham.
