In the early days, going full electric for a vehicle seems like an absurd idea since there were too many restrictions such as the range or even the weight of the battery pack to make it all sounds practical. But as technology moves ahead, more and more auto manufacturers are looking in having their own Electric Vehicle (EV), and that includes Land Rover themselves.
Putting into account of Tesla’s success in selling their EVs in the luxury car sector, Jaguar Land Rover group engineering director Wolfgang Ziebart hinted at the plans of JLR’s view in producing an EV where he said that the market for EVs was split into inner city vehicles and a “second or third car for a wealthy family”.
As for the looks, nothing had appeared on the radars just yet but in might be as how Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern described; “incredibly luxurious, low-slung”.
It is not entirely impossible for Land Rover to go full EV as they once made an electric Defender concept called the Defender All-Terrain Electric. Powered by a single electric motor generating 94-horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, the lithium-ion battery promises a range of 80km with moderate driving.
