The Nissan GT-R, although claimed “untunable” by the manufacturer in the first place, now finds itself under the hands of many, squeezing out every single horsepower available to make it the ultimate machine. While others put their focus on how to make this Godzilla a speed freak, Newport Convertible Engineering (NCE) sets their sights on getting the roof off this coupe.
NCE isn’t really a new player in the game as they have been converting cars with fixed roofs into convertibles for over 30 years. This California-based company has been doing it on cars like the Porsche Panamera, Range Rovers and so on. And the latest project that they are undertaking is chopping the roof off the R35 GT-R.
In their website, NCE offers three designs to choose from. One could either opt for a targa-like roll hoop behind the seats, a clean and nicely tucked in look, or one that mimics the Porsche speedster with two extra humps behind the seats.
While NCE did not mention the cost of the conversion, it is rather brave for someone to actually hand over their GT-R to fiddle about with its chassis. We are not certain on how NCE handles the usual issue of convertibles having extra weight and concerns of the car’s rigidity, but hopefully their 30 years of experience have resulted in a proper workmanship.
