The McLaren P1 itself is already an astonishing machine. Packed with a twin turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine and a hybrid system, the car has a colossal 903-brake horsepower sent to the rear wheels and at the same time featuring a complex aerodynamic system. That being said, the chaps at McLaren figured that they could throw in a couple more touches to make this machine into a complete monster, which since has led to the confirmation of the upcoming P1 GTR.

To be introduced next year, the new P1 GTR is going to be built to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the F1 GTR’s win at Le Mans. The F1 GTR most famous accomplishment in motorsports was by taking the overall victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. The F1 GTR went on racing until 2005 where they finally retire the final chassis.

As a track machine, McLaren will try to wring out the best of the advanced hybrid plug-in drivertrain to come out with at least 986-horsepower. Aside from riding on slick tires, it will also be fitted with a widened track and a more aggressive styling designed to improve aerodynamic performance.

It is said that the P1 GTR will only be offered to existing P1 customers and it will be built in a fewer number than the 375 P1s. How many to be exact has yet been revealed, but it will surely be extremely limited, and production will only take place once the final P1 leaves the production lines. McLaren said that the decision to make the P1 GTR is a response to the demand of the P1 owners, as well as to Ferrari’s upcoming LaFerrari XX.

The price for this track-only P1 GTR is set at £1.98 million (RM 10,836,279), and the package includes the car plus a tailored program created for each customer to build driver capability.
