Fast, agile, and oozing with potential. The Mitsubishi Evo might have gained its global popularity from the harsh world of rallying, but this turbocharged all-wheel time machine has climbed up the ladder and inched a step further by dominating the circuits. Particularly in the time attack business, the effectiveness of the Evolution goes without any doubt as we have seen the progress of TIMETOATTACK participants securing the podiums in the Evo.

Akram, Driver and owner of Dragstar, a loyal participant and proud sponsor of the TIMETOATTACK returns with his widebody Evo 7, clocking 2:37.041 in updated Dragstar livery and a team comprising of Ahmad Zuhaili’s FD2R at 2:38.685 and Afdzal’s STI at 2:36.502!

With some tinkering under the hood, chassis and nowadays, even aero upgrades, this Japanese sedan is more than capable to post sub 2:35 timing around our 5.543km Sepang circuit.

Helping Looney Tooned Racing in further improving their Evo VIII, Alif Hamdan managed to clock a best time of 2:34.547 on a set of Hankook RS3 street tires, and still looking very much stock outside.

Although the Evo X is a total revamp of what the previous platform used to be, it does not seem to have lost any of its original characteristics. Still powered by a 2.0-liter turbo that sends the power to all four wheels, it is still a potent track machine offering lots of room to explore.

Sadly this will soon be a legend as Mitsubishi has announced that the Evo X will be the last of its kind since they had shifted the company’s vision onto a different direction.

And while many of us are still mourning the Evo’s passing, Desmond Soh of ST Powered went on to prove that there is still a lot to wring out from the Evo as he piloted the yellow Evo 9 within the Time Attack Machine Class to set a new record of 2:16.297, shattering all previous records set, destroying even the 2:19.785 set by Farriz Fauzy in the Nissan GTR on slick tires back in 2010!

With such a blisteringly fast lap time, what could his Evo possibly do in the next rounds of TIMETOATTACK? We don’t want to jump into conclusions too soon but by the looks of it, it is very possible to see a sub 2:15 by the end of 2014!

Let’s take a quick look at the top charts in reference to the Evos at last weekend’s TIMETOATTACK Round 1
