The Chevrolet Malibu In A Nutshell
The Chevrolet Malibu marks Chevrolet Malaysia’s first foray into the very competitive D-segment category, going against much more established cars like the Toyota Camry, Nissan Teana, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and the Kia Optima.
Engine and Performance
The sole engine choice available for us Malaysians to choose from is the 2.4L ECOTEC 4 cylinder engine. This engine packs Chevrolet’s famous Dual Continuous Variable Cam Phasing (DCVCP) and is one of the most powerful naturally aspirated engines in its category, pushing out 165 hp at 5,800 rpm and 225 NM of torque at 4,600 rpm. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a conventional 6 speed automatic gearbox with manual shifting mode. This combination allows the Chevrolet Malibu to spring from zerotohundred in 9.6 seconds. Top speed is rated at 206 km/h.
Technology Behind the Brawn
What sets the Malibu 2.4 LTZ from the competition has to be the Remote Engine Start with Passive Entry Push Start button (PEPS) system. Besides the Remote Engine Start, the Malibu also features Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), high pressure headlight washers, follow me home function, electronic parking brake and auto headlight function.
Exterior
On the outside, the Chevrolet Malibu sports a very contemporary looks. Coupled with the muscular lines and bold front grille design, the Malibu is one matured looking sedan. Towards the rear end of the Malibu, you’ll find that the rear lights are inspired by the Chevrolet Camaro. The 18″ rims are matched with 245/45/18 tires from Bridgestone.
Interior
Like previous Chevrolet models, the Malibu also features the signature dual cockpit interior. In the center of the dashboard, there’s a 7″ full color LCD touch screen system called the Chevrolet MyLink. The Chevrolet MyLink is able to pair with your phone for handsfree calls via Bluetooth. Besides that, the Chevrolet MyLink also has a reverse camera integrated. In terms of storage, you can flip the display up to reveal an extra storage space. The Chevrolet Malibu has Camaro inspired meter clusters as well.
Safety
Safety is one of the key features of the Chevrolet Malibu, as it comes packed with 4 airbags. The Malibu has earned a five start NCAP rating as well as a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS). This comes as no surprise, as the Malibu is constructed with a 65% high strength steel structure. Other stuff like ABS, EBD and Brake Assist are also standard on the Malibu. Other than that, the Chevrolet Malibu also features Chevrolet’s Stabilitrak Electronic Stability Control.
The Chevrolet Malibu is available in four different colors, namely Moulin Rouge Red Metallic, Carbon Flash Metallic, Olympic White and Switchblade Silver. Despite the American brand, the Chevrolet Malibu comes fully imported from South Korea, and is available from RM153,888, on the road without roadtax and insurance.
