With BMW revealing their all-new M4 DTM racer, there is no way that Audi will just sit back and let them take the crown. Like the one that grabbed the championship title last year, the 2014 Audi DTM racer is based on the RS5 coupe, except that this year’s is “significantly more aggressive” than its predecessor.
This “more aggressive” look comes from the new aerodynamic package, which Audi engineers had worked hard to accomplish while still staying within the borders of the DTM’s strict rules. But the RS5 DTM still features typical RS elements like the honeycomb grille from the RS5 production car at the front and the new air ducts feeding the engine and brakes.
Under the hood still lies the V8 engine pumping out 465-horsepower, sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. Aside from the aforementioned BMW M4 DTM, the 2014 Audi RS5 DTM will also be defending their title against Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class Coupe DTM this season. Testing has already begun in Budapest, and the first race will take place at Hockenheim in May.
