It is in no doubt that the new Acura NSX is the car that gets us pumped up and eagerly waiting for the day it reaches its production stage. Although it recently caught the headlines for the wrong reasons due to the incident at the Nurburgring, we are pretty sure the Acura engineers are already working tirelessly around the clock to rectify the problem.

Veering away from the incident, the hybrid powertrain used in the new NSX is not the only piece of new technology that Acura is implementing in the car. Acura is trying to fit this next-gen NSX with all sorts of technologies, and one of them includes a new paint process.

In an interview with Honda’s North American Senior Vice President Jon Minto, he told Autoline about the state-of-the-art zirconium e-coat that is going to be applied to the new NSX. By the name of it, it sounds like something used in Formula One to minimize drag or enhance cooling. But that is not the main objective of the paint.

This zirconium e-coat is actually designed to be environmentally friendly, which goes nicely with the Acura NSX’s image of an environmentally friendly car. Through the usage of the zirconium e-coat, they are able to use less paint and coatings on the car and at the same time, cutting down the energy used in completing it.
