2016 Jaguar XE Revealed!

Jaguar-XE-1

Having discontinued the X-Type back in 2009, Jaguar had no C-segment cars in their arsenal. Until now. Meant to replace the old X-Type, Jaguar has finally made a worthy successor, called the Jaguar XE. The Jaguar XE is poised to go against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4. So what has Jaguar done to create the new XE?

For starters, the Jaguar XE is one of the earliest Jaguar models to employ the usage of Jaguar’s own modular aluminium platform. This is a good first move, as the previous X-Type employed the use of Ford’s modular platform. Using Jaguar’s own platform also means that the XE is the first of its segment to use an aluminium monocoque platform.

Powering the new Jaguar XE is the Jaguar Land Rover turbocharged 2.0L engine. This engine produces about 200 hp and there’s a hotter 3.0L supercharged V6 which produces 340 hp. Transmission choices would be either a ZF eight speed automatic or a conventional six speed manual. The automatic is able to achieve zerotohundred in 8.2 seconds while the manual achieves the same zerotohundred in 8.4 seconds. At the moment, the Jaguar XE is only available as a rear wheel drive model. Future models may feature all-wheel-drive depending on market demand.

As for the interior, the Jaguar XE, like its competitors, also features a heads-up display that displays vital info. Besides that, the Jaguar XE also features smartphone connectivity to allow owners to control the vehicle remotely, which includes controlling the car’s interior climate control.
