The Toyota Corolla has been making it mark across the globe, and the world has been anxious in finding out how the new 2014 Corolla will look like. With Toyota releasing a couple of teaser images from the last few weeks, finally the covers are taken off and the new 2014 Corolla sedan has been unveiled at Santa Monica, California.
Taking its design queues from the Furia Concept car at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year, this new Corolla looks pretty impressive and sporty at the same time. While it may not share the same hunkered down stance as the Furia, the styling features sure have freshened up this famed sedan to a new level.
Being slightly larger than the previous generation, the new Corolla gives the rear passengers 75mm more room and rides 10mm lower.
Powering the car is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces either 132-horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque for the LE and S variant, and a more powerful 140-horsepower and 126 lf-ft of torque goes to the newly-added Eco-badge version, which is said to be able to run an estimated highway fuel economy rating of 5.9-litre/100km.
The Corolla will be available in three configurations – a six-speed manual on the L and S models, a four-speed automatic for the base L variant, and a newly-developed 7-speed CVTi-S (Continuously Variable Transmission intelligence – Shift) for the S, LE and Eco.
While Toyota has yet to release the full specs of the new Corolla such as the price, they did include some highlighted details like the usage of strong, lightweight steel helped brought the weight down to 1,315kg, and the car comes in standard with eight airbags, LED lowbeam headlights and Bluetooth connectivity.
