It no longer is a secret, now that the upcoming 2014 AUDI A4 (built on the B9 platform), will be dropping roughly 100kg of weight thanks to the use of new aluminium and magnesium parts and will even have 5 engine options to choose from, including a plug-in hybrid variant.
At the petrol combusting level, the 2014 A4 is expected to be equipped with a 150bhp 1.4L TSI powerplant and will be followed by a 2.0L TFSI producing 225bhp to round it all up.
As for diesel engines, there’s going to be 4 particular variants of the 2.0L TDI that will sing to a tune of 122bhp at the baseline and climb its way up to 190bhp for the range topper. And 2 more 3.0L V6 TDI engines will also make its way into the line-up with one tuned to 218bhp and the other at 272bhp.
Last but not least, the 2014 A4 Plug-in hybrid variant is said to be carrying a 2.0L TFSI engine that’s good for 211bhp while harbouring a 95bhp e-Quattro electric motor that’s being powered by a 12kWh lithium-ion battery and should yield a a range of 50km on EV mode. This particular variant of the A4 should be made available within a year of the A4 being launched.
