Subaru Debuts their Muscular WRX Concept at New York!

Needless to say, Subaru fans have been waiting for a long time for the Japanese car manufacturer to come out with a meaner and angrier machine. The wait might be over soon enough as Subaru has finally shed some light on what it seems to be their next star in the performance category. Debuting at the New York International Auto Show is the all-new WRX Concept Car.

Adopting a body style where car manufacturers label it as a “four-door coupe”, the WRX Concept’s outline is exactly what one would expect to see on a WRX model. That big bulgy hood and flared wheel arches somehow keeps a promise that this will be something worth waiting for, especially when we could already see what is hiding behind the wheel arches; massive 20-inch forged alloy wheels with Dunlop’s 245/40ZR20 wrapped around it. And not to forget, the rear diffuser looks extremely mean.

The bulging on the hood, which is called a “powerbulge”, is described by Subaru to “provide clearance for the new turbocharged engine and intercooler”. That is the closest that we could know of this WRX Concept’s internal machinery as they provided no other details about the powertrain.

But Subaru did add a bit more information the steps taken in improving the handling, where “the Subaru WRX Concept features a carbon-fiber roof to enhance the already low center of gravity and reduce weight”.

It may take some time before Subaru comes out with an advanced stage WRX concept that might already look similar to the production model, but what do you think of the direction that this new WRX is taking so far?

Undoubtedly the best looking Subaru for along time since the 22B STI. This is by far the meanest looking too! Hopefully it will perform as mean as it looks!
