Porsche Debuts their First Plug-In Panamera S E-Hybrid in Shanghai!

China is quickly getting recognition from all the major players around the world, and that includes the ones in the automotive scene too.  And to woo the large customer prospect in China, Porsche had brought in their second generation Gran Turismo in the form of the new Panamera S E-Hybrid for a world premiere at the recent Shanghai Auto Show.

Also making an appearance alongside the world’s first luxury-class plug-in hybrid are the Panamera 4S and the Panamera Turbo, now with an extended wheelbase and powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine with bi-turbocharging. With the launch of these new models, the Panamera now has a range of ten models offering comfort without sacrificing the sportiness that Porsche is associated with.

“Exactly four years ago, we introduced the first Panamera to a world audience here in Shanghai – and very intentionally here. Because it was clear to us that our Gran Turismo would be precisely the right model for this future market. And we were not mistaken. In 2012, one out of three Panamera cars was delivered to China”, said the President and CEO of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Matthias Müller.

The Panamera S E-Hybrid now comes with 416-horsepower that could take it from zerotohundred in 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 270 km/h. Also comes with this new model is the ability to cruise in an all-electric mode, which it could cover about 36 km with a top speed of 135 km/h. Using a newly developed lithium-ion battery with a 9.4 kWh capacity, the power pack could be fully charged within as little as a few hours depending on the type of the external electrical supply. The battery could also be recharged by the electrical system recuperation during driving.
