Peugeot and Total Jointly going Green with New 208 Hybrid FE Collaboration!

It seems plans are now in motion for Peugeot to expand their 208 range with the addition of hybrid concept model – dubbed the 208 Hybrid FE that’s Fun and Efficient at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

To help them get the ball rolling, they’re now in collaboration with Total – a French oil and gas company, to join in on the fun and games; promising to make the upcoming 208 Hybrid FE come with “extreme economy and extreme performance”. Certainly making us raise our eye-brows.

Unfortunately, it seems Peugeot isn’t letting much of the cat out of the bag just yet, teasing us with only scraps of information, obviously trying to build up a little more hype about it.

However, this much seems certain for time being, that their upcoming hybrid stead will be a lot more aerodynamic with a lower co-efficient of drag (Cd) and the car will also come equipped with new alloy rims wrapped with low-rolling resistance rubbers.

Meanwhile, Peugeot will be slapping on some composite and polycarbonate materials to shape up the 208 with it’s new found ability to cut through the air. Such materials will be coming from Total (hence the collaboration), as well as its subsidiaries – Hutchinson and CCP Composites which will allow the 208 Hybrid FE to weigh a whopping 200kg less than an entry level 208 at 975kg.

However, what’s going to be found under the hood will be a 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol aluminium alloy engine providing 68bhp at 6,000rpm and 95Nm of torque at 3,000rpm working with an electric motor and battery taken from Peugeot’s endurance programs while mated to an EGC gearbox (Electric Gearbox Control).

While many may scoff at what will be found under the hood, it seems that this 208 Hybrid FE Pug will have the ability to sprint to 100kmh in about 8.0s while having the ability to emit just 49g/km of CO2.
