Patented Images of the Toyota 86 Convertible Leaks through the Net!

The Toyota 86 has been associated with numerous possible models ever since it was launched last year. Other than the more powerful turbocharged/supercharged version that enthusiasts say is a must-have for a fun FR machine, they are also eyeing on a convertible version to pop out anytime soon. Looks like the latter might be coming sooner than we expected as circulating the net now is a set of images of what it seems like the convertible version of the 86.

These patented images were picked up by Car & Driver, which are also official European patent papers. This means that this is the closest or the exact form of how the 86 convertible will look like once it hits the production lines.

While the Toyota FT-86 Open Concept gave us a picture of how it looks like with the roof down, we had no hint of either will it be a hard top or a tent as a roof. But if these images are true, it means that the 86 Convertible will be having a soft top and still retaining the coupe’s lines with the roof up.

Toyota has yet to come out with any information of getting the convertible version of the 86 to the production lines, but with the attention gained through their Open Concept which at the first place was to study the people’s reaction towards a topless 86, our best bet will be a big yes.
