Drayson Racing Signs Up as the First Team for the FIA Formula E

Being the pioneer in low-carbon motorsport R&D business, Drayson Racing Technologies displayed their commitment for the new FIA all-electric Formula E race series by being the first team to officially sign up and approved by the global racing body. Set to make a debut somewhere in 2014, the new racing series will feature cars fuelled by renewable electric energy getting in serious speeds at various circuits around the world.

The UK-based team will be one of ten teams expected to compete in the race series, and they are planning to devote two drivers for this purpose. Although the cars for 2014 are being developed by Spark and McLaren, Drayson are aiming to build their own cars by 2015. The cars that will be used on the mean time will be an updated version of the Formulec EF01 electric-racing prototype seen for the first time at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

“We aim to be one of the front runners from the start, leveraging the knowhow we’ve built up over the past two years working on electric drivetrains and developing our 200mph electric Le Mans prototype,’ said team principal Paul Drayson.

“We believe that FIA Formula E has very significant commercial potential. It will attract new fans and new sponsors to motorsport and is on track to become the world’s leading environmentally sustainable global sporting event.”
