Remember San’t Agata’s finest supercar manufacturer? Well the name, ‘supercar manufacturer’ is about to change because Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini AG has confirmed that their massive SUV concept, dubbed the Urus which was unveiled in Auto China 2012 last year is making it to the production lines. Bold move by the bull emblem!

At Zerotohundred’s HQ, we are still pretty confused on how to exactly pronounce the Urus. Is it “U-Rus” or “YU-Rus”? Whatever it is, we think that although the concept looks magnificent (for an SUV), it is probably not the best move by Lamborghini. Unless there are other hidden agendas sitting around at the headquarters in San’t Agata, we think that what Lamborghini should put into production is the Estoque. Remember? The 6.5-litre V12 powered coupe-like saloon? Yes!

According to Winkelmann – “We’re working on it and it will come, which will be good for the brand,”. Motivated by Porsche’s overwhelming success with the Cayenne, Lamborghini is confident and optimistic about the Urus making it to the production lines and will likely go head-to-head with Bentley’s iteration of an SUV, set to release by 2015. Lamborghini has not officially announced on when exactly the Urus will be ready, however they intend on keeping things low-key until the launch.

Presented officially last year in Beijing, the Lamborghini Urus concept is 4.99 metres long, 1.99 metres wide and 1.66 metres tall, which means that it is not exactly the size of a Gallardo. At the same time, Lamborghini never mentioned about the engine that it will devour under the bonnet, however they claimed it to be in the vicinity of 600bhp. We think that there is a high possibility that the Urus is making into production to implement Lamborghini’s hybrid technology. However, these are just speculations.

The Urus will be the brand’s second SUV, after the uber ghastly, fuel guzzling LM-002 back in the late 80s. So…a Lamborghini SUV? Good or bad? We’d love to hear your opinion!
