VIDEO: BMW M3 Claims First DTM Win at Lausitzring!

It’s just the second round of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) season in Lausitzring and BMW has just managed to clinch their first win all thanks to Bruno Spengler and his BMW Team Schnitzer BMW Bank M3 DTM.

As the lights turned green, BMW drivers Spengler and Angus Farfus were constantly battling it out over each and every 3.478km Lausitzring lap, which saw Gary Paffet (Thomas Sabo Mercedes AMG C-Coupé) ovetake Farfus to take second place from his third.

As the race progressed fifth placed Jamie Green (Mercedes AMG C-Coupé) managed to find his way past Edoardo Mortara’s Audi to take fourth and subsequently began plotting a way past Brazilian rookie, Farfus for third.

All this while, up ahead of the battle for third, it was constant nose-to-tail action as Paffet kept the pressure on Spengler, whilst 72,000 wide-eyed fans eagerly watched on from the edge of their seats.

After having completed 54 laps, for a total of 180km, Spengler managed to stave-off Paffet’s advances, taking the chequered flag as both drivers crossed the finish line with just 1.019s separating them, making the gruelling 1hour 09mins race well worth the torture.

The battle for third also finished in a similar fashion as Farfus managed to stay ahead of Green to finish third in his Castrol EDGE BMW M3 DTM.

With Spengler’s win at Lausitzring, it not only marks BMW’s maiden win after 20 years of absence, but also their 50th cumulated DTM victory!
