While some adore the stock package that the Toyota 86 comes with, the grunt offered by the 2.0-liter Boxer engine might not be enough for those that constantly pushes them to the limit. Going sideways is now a serious business and with the 86 now ready to carry out its duty as the AE86’s spiritual successor, it is slowly emerging as one of the top players in the competitive drift scene.
So with the drifters craving for more power to be squeezed out from the 86, what route could they take on to get more out of it? Giving it some boost with a turbocharger/supercharger might do the trick, but it seems like there is another option that is much more popular among pro drifters which involves a total heart transplant. And nothing else fits better into the Toyota other than the much-famed 2JZ engine.
European pro drifter Fredric Aasbo has it; the witty Ken Nomura also has done it, and now another swapped 86 joins in the club which is surprisingly from our neighbor up north in Thailand. Driven by the Thai’s Drift King, Kiki Sak Nana, the rear tires of this 86 were taking a serious punishing from the power coming out of the new heart it is beating in.
Built by Impression Garage, they had worked tirelessly day and night to complete the whole swapping process and also transforming the 86 into a full-off drift car in just four weeks; similar to Fredric’s 86 project! These guys definitely deserve the credits and with such an awesome car ready for action, let’s keep our fingers crossed that it will make an appearance on the Formula Drift Asia series next year.

boxer engines are used by Porsche and Subaru…and they all come in both NA and Turbo form. I think its a waste not to turbo the boxer in the 86/BR-Z. Hopefully the STi version of the BR-Z comes turbocharged. __________________

Re: The 2JZ – Now Sky-Rocketing the Toyota 86
Regardless of what you guys debating about the car, listen to their theme song man, “We Chasing High” so what do expect? As been mention AIDS, this project is not just about being BOLD, but the level of knowledge and workmanship skills shown in this project is very high. I know that Malaysia is getting better in term of car modification but i hate to admit that THAI is raising the bar higher than us. Would love to see this S**T in Malaysia in raw!

nice pic bro. huhuhu for me i’ll go for hks supercharge. no lag. should be suitable to sustain the power band of the engine and while drifting. summore produced by hks and comfirm stable. the 1st pic is the centrifugal type of supercharge. same concept as turbo turbin but operated using belts. __________________

Re: The 2JZ – Now Sky-Rocketing the Toyota 86
The only engine from Toyota that all car lovers of other brands respect most
Really indeed the best engine ever made from Toyota…Old tech, but still beats most of the new tech engines…Nice! Hope to see it at Formula Drift…already seen the Lexus IS250 Coupe with 2J…really impressive. __________________

Re: The 2JZ – Now Sky-Rocketing the Toyota 86
Trivia ….a. 2JZ Engine has a cylinder bore of 86mm x 86mm.
b. Subaru FB20 engine uses a square cylinder bore of 86mm x 86mm (special engineering request from Toyota) …. that is how the 86 drives the car (forgive the pun) |

Re: The 2JZ – Now Sky-Rocketing the Toyota 86
It seems like there is a demand for the legendary Supra to be reborn, yet Toyota doesn’t want to build it. What an epidemic.

Re: The 2JZ – Now Sky-Rocketing the Toyota 86
If AE86 can be reborn after 20years+, I believe Supra will too reborn. That’s a very nice concept car of a Supra. I hope it will be
reality soon. This is a great design. Better than what I found last time where they said there will be a Supra replacement in year 2012….too bad it did not happen and well lucky too! Cuz i dun like the design…At least what was posted by DZul, still have the looks of the original Supra…really nice…!!! Don’t like this, totally lost the looks of Supra… __________________

Re: The 2JZ – Now Sky-Rocketing the Toyota 86
It’s amazing what thais can do with new cars like the FT86 when they don’t waste money paying huge amounts of import duty and AP.
