Remember the insanely-fast Hennessey Venom GT Spyder? The guys at Hennessey must have a serious addiction to speed as they had successfully transformed something that was earlier known as a corner-swathing machine into a high-speed, tower of power for the streets. But they definitely would not stop there as such addiction never stops, in which saw them coming out with a brand new monster from the deep depths of their garage.
The latest victim to have received a serious speed treatment is the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe. Originally, this American luxury car has about 560-horsepower coming out from the 6.2-liter V8, and such power could already be a handful for some to handle. But down at Hennessey’s, too much is never going to be enough. With a newly-created package called the VR1200, it pumps up the CTS-V’s power output into a whole new territory where only the fastest would survive.
With the VR1200 package, the Cadillac CTS-V now has an insanely explosive output of 1066-horsepower to the rear wheels, which according to Hennessey is 1226-horsepower and 1109lb-ft of torque at the flywheel! These 4-digit figures are achieved by ditching the original 6.2-liter supercharged power plant to make way for a larger 7.0-liter monster. Coupled up with a pair of turbochargers and a long list of modifications like some forged internals, high-flow cylinder heads and injectors, custom camshaft, a new fuel delivery system, dual wastegates, a custom engine management system and electronic boost controller, the VR1200 CTS-V could be fitted with either a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
With all these modifications stuffed into the CTS-V, Hennessey puts the performance estimation of a 0-100 time in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 390km/h. And with the massive power surge coming out from under the hood, Hennessey had also included some proper equipment to keep them under control. The brakes are upgraded to 15.1-inch carbon ceramic Brembos with eight-piston calipers for the front and six-piston stopping the rear. Other than the 20-inch wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot super Sports tires, the suspension is re-worked with the addition of new sway bars and the standard Magnetic Ride Control tuned by John Heinricy.
The final product will have some exclusive final touches that include splashes of carbon fiber and Alcantara filling in the interior, and a whole new bodywork. Like all Hennessey’s special creations, there will only be 12 of such being made. Hopefully they will put this new CTS-V against the Venom GT and the Veyron for a truly epic showdown, and showing that the performance numbers on the spec sheet are not just for show.
