With the recent spike of carpark crimes that had preyed on a number of unsuspecting victims, mostly upon women, we are now seeing a lot of effort being taken by various parties to put this cowardly act to a stop. Besides of the steps taken by shopping mall managements such as offering escorts by their security guards to the parked cars, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) are also playing their part by recently conducting a “City Survival Workshop”.
With the aim to equip their female customers with the necessary skills and knowledge in self-defense and what to do when being caught in a dangerous situation, the workshop was led by K. Balasupramaniam, the chairman of the Malaysian Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. And this is not his first time in providing such training as he had previously conducted safety training to organizations like the Disaster Assistance Unit and the India-Gujerat Earthquake Relief Charity Fund.
“We organised the Nissan City Survival Workshop for our female customers to equip them with the required skills and knowledge to protect themselves – especially after reading about crimes these days targeting women”, said the executive director of ETCM, Datuk Ang Bon Beng.
The 110 participants were exposed in responding to emergencies effectively and also ways in detecting hidden camera. But the main message that this workshop brings is to manage the situation by preventing it from happening and only exercising the other forms of self-defense when the situation becomes unavoidable.
“I feel safer and am now more prepared to defend myself in case of any emergencies”, claimed participant Jackie Joo Moi Hoon.
