Ducati bikes may often have been perceived as a two-wheeled doppelganger to Italian sports car manufacturer – Ferrari, and as such the Italian 2-wheel manufacturer commands a strong legion of followers who would do almost anything just to be associated with the brand and have the level of respect it commands. ‘Anything’ seems to be the operative word here as did staff members of a Ducati dealership – InMoto Ducati, realised when a group of thieves attempted to simply ‘stroll in and roll out’ two Ducati 1199 Panigale motorcycles (worth £20,000 each) from the dealership located in South London’s Croydon area, England.
The humorous deed was thankfully captured by the dealership’s CCTV, which showed a total of five thieves donning motorcycle gear; with an initial two arriving on foot and another four showing up on three scooters moments later – armed with hammers and metal bars it seems.
As if nothing was the matter, the two men literally strolled in calmly and even took a moment to pick out which two bikes they’d like to have and proceeded to push them out the door – the nerve!
Just as soon as that happened, an InMoto staff (enter Paul Read) happened to be heading out onto the showroom floor with a bunch of papers in his hands, catching the thieves ‘red-handed’ (excuse the pun). Instantly, a struggle ensued to prevent the ‘blokes’ from calmly walking out the door with the highly valuable goods in hand.
Thankfully, Read managed to clog the entrance proper, and the CCTV showed two more assailants trying to help get one of the Panigale bikes out the door, causing the situation to deteriorate further into Mr Read’s advantage as he held on to the bike for dear life.
Time was a-wasting and they needed to make a quick get-away as two more InMoto staff members nearby saw the commotion and sprang into action from a nearby shop to aid Mr Read against the five diabolically stupendously moronic thieves who began waiving their weapons, intending to cause some serious hurt, but alas ‘chickened out’ in doing a really bad deed.
Instead, the ‘not-so-furious 5’ threw their weapons at Mr Read’s saviours and fled on their scooters after a short tussle when one of the them dressed in hi-vis gear gets pushed over twice while he was on the scooter – it may seem that this particular thief may be a slow-learner?
However, it seems that these ‘not-so-wise’ guys have been targeting other motorcycle shops within the area after having successfully rolled away two Aprilia 300 scooters and an RSV4 Factory over the course of two years. And, it seems that one of the thieves may have actually registered his actual name to one of the scooters (ROTFL)! – Obviously not demonstrating a rather high level of intelligence here ‘innit’?
