BMW Celebrating the 2012 DTM Dominance with the M3 DTM Championship Edition

After an absence of almost two decades from the DTM or German Touring Car Championship, BMW finally made a comeback in 2012 with high hopes in toppling down their rivals of Mercedes-Benz and Audi. And it was no surprise that the weapon of choice for them to do so would be the BMW M3 Coupe, which although only fielded three teams and six cars; two cars less than the rivals’, managed to take home the DTM title for 2012.

And to celebrate this incredible win which also saw Bruno Sprengler winning the driver’s championship in the M3 and Team Schnitzer carrying home the team’s title, BMW is launching a very limited M3 called the DTM Championship Edition. With inspiration gathered from their championship-winning race cars, this limited run M3 sports a Frozen Black metallic paint and matte-black alloys to match the stealthy look of this M3.

Running across the carbon fiber roof and trunk is the iconic M stripe, and a couple of decals could also be found in celebrating the DTM championship season. There are not that many changes made to the aerodynamics, but every single model of this 54-unit only M3 DTM Championship Edition will bear a serial number and Sprengler’s signature on the carbon fiber dashboard. BMW also wrapped the steering with Alcantara, and the interior is bathed with black Novillo leather and contrasted by Palladium Silver accents.

Also to give the M3 DTM Championship Edition more edge, it will be stuffed with the Competition Package, M Drive and the M Driver’s Package. All of the 54 units available will only be offered with a seven-speed M DCT Drivelogic dual-clutch transmission, and will be available from February 2013 at USD 130,000 (RM 396,000).
