When Audi came up with the Quattro concept back in the 2010 Paris Motor Show, it had sent a great wave of excitement to the motoring world. Being one of the great icons back in the 80s as a ridiculously-quick Group B rally car, the original Quattro had numerous wins around its belt and instantly gained a legendary status which sticks until today.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to see more of this five-cylinder concept car being produced by Audi as they had reportedly brought the project to a dead stop, despite the optimism shown by Quattro GmbH boss Stephan Reil that there were chances in the concept being produced in limited numbers. And the main reason for doing so? According to Audi, there is not really a market for such a model nowadays, where more and more people are opting for other type of vehicles like SUVs and crossovers.
And with that, Audi had recently revealed their contender for vehicles like the Range Rover Evoque crossover called the Audi Crosslane Concept. Based on the Q2, the Crosslane made its first public appearance at the recent Paris Motor Show and is said to have a 1.5-liter TSI three-cylinder petrol engine coupled with two electric motors powering the concept crossover. 0-100 is dealt in 8.6 seconds and has a top speed of 182km/h.
With the Quattro concept receiving numerous positive response from auto journalists and enthusiasts alike, it is too bad that they went on with such a decision. Hopefully the demand for such a sporty car will increase someday and we will actually see the return of the Quattro into the motorsport scene.
