TC Euro Cars, the sole franchise distributor of Renault vehicles in Malaysia, introduced a new addition to the current line up of Renault models – the Koleos, Renault’s first ever crossover 4×4 vehicle. The Koleos boasts genuine 4×4 off-road capabilities, comfort of a saloon car, massive cabin that space is worthy of a compact MPV and benefits from the Renault-Nissan alliance.
The new Koleos, first introduced as a concept back in 2006, is an interesting product that unifies two of the most respected automakers in the industry. It benefits from Renault engineering so one can expect superior ride comfort whilst maintaining handling characteristics of a sedan, and to make it a true performer, it is also endowed with true 4×4 capability thanks to the installation of the powertrain and driveline from Nissan.
The 2.5-liter engine produces 170hp at 6,000rpm with max torque of 226Nm at 4,400rpm, and is mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which constantly optimises engine speed and torque to the economy/speed equation dictated by the driver. Being a 4-cylinder engine, the long stokes produces ample torque across a useable rev range, this results in excellent fuel consumption that is rated at 9.5-liter per 100km on a combined cycle.
The Koleos, being a Renault, has safety as its fundamental feature, it scored 5-stars in the Euro NCAP safety rating and is one of the twelve Renault models to achieve 5 stars to date; Renault has more cars scoring 5 stars in the Euro NCAP test than any other manufacturer. Contributing to such excellent safety rating are 6 airbags and a reinforced body structure with programmed deformation zones that absorb energy in the event of a an impact.
