We’ve been teased for a really long time but finally it’s over, thanks to CarPoint, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has leaked out, and it’s looking good and everything that the spy shots said it would be.
It will be officially unveiled next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but here’s a little low-down on the highly anticipated three pointer. The 300SL inspired “Gullwing” will be powered by a front/mid-mounted version of Benz’s generic 6.3-liter V8, an engine that also powers the majority of AMG’s offerings. A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is used to channel 563hp and 480lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Weighing in at 1,590kg, the SLS does the century sprint in 3.7 seconds and onto a top speed of 317km/h. Carbon ceramic brake discs are optional but tick on that box and any speed party will be dispersed with supreme authority.
The hundreds of spy shots of the SLS have pretty much shown how the car would look like but this is the first time we’re getting a clear view, its upright front fascia, the headlamps, and curvaceous rear rump draws cues from modern and classic Benzes.
Colour choices will include Alubeam Silver, Syvanite Grey, Alanite Grey and red. This will compliment the leather and alcantara interior and ten-spoke forged wheels. Production begins in late 2010 with sales starting the following year. Early pricing suggests a €177,310 figure in Germany. Expect it to cost an arm, a leg and your entire family’s savings here in BolehLand. Till next week, this is all we got so far.
