The online automotive media has been set alight by news that a Ferrari 458 Italia has been confirmed for production though not anytime soon. Italian website Quattroruote.it quotes Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo as saying that the Ferrari 458 Italia Spider could hit the market in the coming years.
He has been quoted as saying, “deliveries of the 458 Italia will begin in the second half of January. We also plan a spider version, but not for a couple of years.”
Replacing the F430, the Ferrari 458 Italia was formally shown off for the first time in Frankfurt earlier this month. Together with a host of leading technological advancements, the 458 Italia receives almost 570hp and up to 540Nm of torque courtesy of a mid-mounted 4.5-liter V8 engine. The same engine will also power the Spider together with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The coupe is capable of a 3.4-second century sprint and a top speed of 325km/h. Expect the Spider to lag behind by slightly less than a second on the acceleration figures with an equal top speed or slightly less.
