Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – A1 Team Malaysia welcomes the recently launched PLUS Expressways backed road safety campaign. A1 Team Malaysia was represented by Azrai Razuan at the event held to publicise this new initiative, which was held at Persada PLUS, the PLUS Expressways headquarters.

PLUS, a commercial partner of the team, has already linked with the A1 Team Malaysia to produce two road safety public service announcements. The team will be supporting the new campaign, adding its voice to the call for everyone to improve safety on the Malaysian roads.

MUFORS, meaning Malaysians Unite For Road Safety, is focused on a website, www.090909.org.my and is a hub for the activities connected to the campaign. All Malaysians are encouraged to make a pledge on how they can contribute to reduce accidents and save lives. The aim is for everyone to honour these pledges on the campaign event day, 9th September 2009.

A1 Team Malaysia, as an international motor racing team representing its nation, is keen to use its high profile to publicise the campaign. The team will be making pledges on the website and using every opportunity to promote the values of this new initiative.

Fairuz Fauzy, driver for A1 Team Malaysia, says of MUFORS, “As a racing driver you are very aware of the dangers of being behind the wheel of a car, whether you are on the road or the racetrack. I think that any campaign which highlights the benefits of improving safety will help to save lives.

I recently filmed a PLUS public service announcement which encourages drivers to wear their safety belts and I would urge everyone to do this. Texting while driving is another definite no-no, as is using your mobile phone without a hands free kit, which is also very dangerous, so pledging to stop doing these two whilst driving will certainly help to reduce the number of accidents on our roads. “

Aaron Lim, another A1 Team Malaysia driver adds, “This campaign reaches everyone. Whether a driver or a passenger in a car, as we must all be aware of the dangers of driving and take any actions we can to reduce the risks. Driving a racecar is similar in many respects – wearing a seat belt, focusing totally on the road, using the mirrors and paying attention to the rules – safety is paramount. I wholeheartedly support the MUFORS campaign and urge everyone to make their pledge.”

MUFORS is a community project that was set up to empower Malaysians to voice their thoughts and concerns on road safety in the country. More importantly, it also serves as a platform for everyone to think about how they can play a part to improve road safety and save lives.

The MUFORS initiative is focused on the website www.090909.org.my and supported by PLUS Expressways Berhad (PLUS), AMP Radio Networks, the Malaysian Highway Authority, the Ministry of Works, the Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research
