Who would have figured that the police force will also be hit by the rise in global fuel prices? Only last week did our very own pride and joy, the Malaysian Royal Police report that the rise in fuel prices will cost them an additional RM30million or more to operate, well at least they’re just telling us that, not making us pay for the misery, unlike cops in America.
Apparently, Police department’s all over America have been feeling the pinch of cruising around watching out for bad guys or having hundreds of them chasing a single bad guy, not forgetting the patrol chopper, and they’re now about to charge any speeder caught.
A north Atlanta police department reported that they had used up 60per cent of their annual fuel budget in only six months, with that they were then faced with the question of whether they should reduce patrols, increase taxes for all, or simply just charging speeders. So with the decision made, every speeder caught will be charged an additional US$12, that is said to be enough to raise around US$26,000 in a city of only 7,700, not quite sure how that will help with the fuel price woes but more US Police departments are believed to follow suit, hopefully this doesn’t catch on here.
