After very nearly being written off into the pages of history, Jaguar now presents the XF-R. A pumped up, adrenalin fused version of the XF; a car that almost single handedly revived Jaguar, and just like the XF, a lot of hopes are pinned on the XF-R to further claw Jaguar out of its predicament.
Courtesy of Car Online and its spy photographers, these are the first pictures to have surfaced depicting what the production version of the XFR will look like. Not scheduled for release for at least another year, but apparently the XF-R runs a 5.0 liter V8 which is essentially a new generation engine destined to answer the call of duty across Jaguar and Land Rovers product line.
Pitting the XF-R squarely at the BMW M5, Audi RS6 and Mercedes E63 AMG, Jaguar obviously had to do something about its new comer status in the powerwar so it went ahead and supercharged the powerplant and it predictably will at least produce 500hp. To keep things cooled, the XF-R features an enlarged spoiler ducts that are largely disguised under the black tape on this prototype.
The XF-Rs visual cues are as expected of any uber saloon of today, revised snout, larger air intakes and bonnet scoops, stout side sills, chunky quad pipes, and a camouflaged rear diffuser, all of which, having a role to play in helping the Jag so fast, and stay planted, and the 20 inch wheels designed especially for R models, well those are just to keep things blinging.
