So determined was Nissan in limiting the tuning capabilities of its GT-R that so far very few aftermarket tuners have been able to get past the restrictions and the rest have only been able to offer visual upgrades. Even the wheels have sensors on them and apparently the car does not operate on aftermarket rims although BBS has come up with a for sale in Japan only rims, but who cares? Its the Nissan GT-R, the same one that demolished the 911 on the Nurburgring and thats in its standard spec, reports have suggested that the V-Spec variant is already 18 seconds faster around the ‘Ring’. But if performance upgrades can’t be done or are slow in development, visual enhances are a sure thing.
The latest company to jump into the list of tuners for Nissan’s new GT-R supercar is a Japanese firm called “Garage Defend”. The company’s tuning package for the GT-R consists of a carbon-fibre bodykit that includes a batmobile-styled front spoiler with side-wings, a new grille and a huge rear wing complemented by a set of black alloy wheels. Inside, the only addition is a pair of red-colored bucket seats. In terms of mechanical upgrades, Garage Defend’s tuning package for the GT-R includes a new sportier muffler and a suspension lowering kit (by 30 mm).
