A few days ago we reported on Porsche’s intentions to build a car to compete in the hot hatch segment, primarily against BMW. Well details have emerged that Porsche is looking to the Volkswagen Mark 6 Golf as a base for its new entry-level model.
It is also believed that the Porsche hot hatch has set the BMW 1-Series as its target, that would make it very much affordable for aspiring Porsche owners though I’m sure a hot hatch is not what they had in mind when they first dreamed of a Porsche as a must have.
Its all good though, if Porsche feels that it should move into a segment light years away on what its foundations are built on, it should be perfectly acceptable for fans and car lovers alike. What with the surge in world energy prices and increasing pressure from environmentalists to produce greener cars, I’d rather have fun in smaller friendlier Porsche’s than not have the brand around at all.
One thing though , it’s time the Porsche Design Department undergo a major modernization, new Porsche’s are just share too much aesthetically and it’s just getting old, predictable and boring. It seems like its designers have run out of ideas, even the rendering looks like a Cayenne beat into a Golf but I’m pretty sure that’s not how it’ll ultimately look like. Something refreshingly exciting Porsche, please.
