The new Mercedes A-Class that is due to be released in 2010 will have an extensive design line up that will include a coupe and convertible to rival the Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series. That will be an interesting comparison but Mercedes is not stopping there, it’s rumoured that the German auto giants are planning a compact SUV that will compete with the upcoming BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Built on the same platform as the B-Class, all new A-Class variants will come standard with front-wheel-drive with all-wheel-drive as an option.
According to the guys over at AutoZeitung, the most important A-Class will be the compact sport A-Class coupe or otherwise known as the CLA. Using similar design language as its bigger brother, the CLS. The CLA will also be a compact four door coupe with frameless doors, it’s also three centimeters longer than the current B-Class to offer more legroom.
Engine line up will include a 4-cylinder turbo engines ranging from 90 to 150 hp as well as a three cylinder turbocharged version that is still under consideration.
