Lotus Elise Perfected By Project Kahn

lotus-elise-by-project-kahn_3

Project Kahn is well known for the ultra high performance supercars it so often tunes and helps improve upon, both aesthetically and performance wise. The Audi R8, Mercedes Mclaren SLR, Ferrari 599, Bentley and Rolls Royce are only some of the super vehicles it has improved upon. But it has also done so on more sane cars like Smart and the Elise you see here.

One of Project Kahn’s major missions when transforming a normal Lotus Elise into this beauty was to help owners of the car stand out from a possible sea of other Elise owners out there. As a 60th anniversary project for Lotus, Kahn went even sportier with the Elise, installing a full aerodynamic body styling package.

Front spoiler, ventilated front wings, side sills, rear spoiler and larger side intake ducts are some of the exterior alterations done. The interior also received some attention with a full leather compliment fitted. In addition Kahn provided a sports exhaust system to improve engine breathing and then improved handling with a lowered suspension with 28 stage dampers. Improving the handling of an Elise is quite a tall order, given the car’s established high credentials on a track, but Project Kanh is confident they have done it. We will believe them. these Project Kahn, or Gembala or whatever they call themselves, do they really have the expertise on bettering cars up?

not to be rude or anything, but Lotus spend millions creating that model and yet, this Kahn with i dont know how they do it, can do better?

or they just try n error by putting those pieces into the car? put something. then run. measure. good, then ok. if no good, dismantle. put something else. run again. bla bla bla.

is that it?

helo ~
i quite have the same thinking with drM
but sometimes a lot of car have a lot of room for improvements

that is why i think some there are still mod done on exotic cars

but not often , coz its like we have no taste to change the etc like especially exterior and interior

an example > i have seen some , whom i call ' blind owner '
he or she own a classic 80's porsche
where then add some very un melodic changes to it
an air vent , exactly same like EVO IV side air vent
and some scoop like impreza but smaller

coz the designer back then already did a good job designing the car
why ruin it ??

another example ,
lets just say ferrari is da vinci if you don't , he's a famous painter
then ferrari make a car , da vinci make a painting
satisfied with the result maybe fall into hands of so called owners
who then feel they have a mind of their own
n put some ' thing ' else to make it more nice ~

will be bullshit for me , except it is very nice

but i don't think it the elise featured here look bad ,

oh yea , if anyone is reading this

i cannot get into your site laa
zero to hundred !!!

can only reach here
anywhere further
cannot view at all ~
like forums or marketplace
all also can't
there is always room to improve a road car suspension
bcos a road car is tuned for both road and track
so the tuner can mod the suspension to be better on track
but on the road sure too uncomfortable

These tuners are customizing the car to cater to a niche market. Try not to think of it as a 'better' design to the manufacturers but rather diifferent for a different market.

Car manufacturers are constrained in their design. Their one design must appeal to the needs of various markets and at the correct price for the targeted market. It it costly for them to invest in the design of a new model and they must produce cheaply enough so the volume and profit is there and still meet future emission and crash safety standards.

Product design decisions are influenced by marketing decisions. So for instance, soundproofing though adds more weight is important for the car to appeal to a wide market. Another example is power. Why put a 900hp engine when a 650hp engine will do because the nearest rival is doing 630hp.. They also have to have one engine durable enough that can run both in the deserts of Dubai and in winters in Sweden for 100,000km without major problems. This may mean tuning the engine to produce only 600hp when in bench tests it can do close to 700hp without problems.

So you can imagine the amount of 'compromise' that goes into a production car or sportscar

Tuners have a freer hand. They don't have to invest in hundreds of millions to come up with a new car design and so don't need to think about ROI for that investment.

Having said that, the established names mentioned Gemballa etc (I guess Project Kahn too) are highly experienced engineeering outfits. They do proper engineering, testing including wind tunnel tests. So no 'engineering short cuts'. They're not chop shop stylists. They offer usually a lot more power, styling, handling etc at much much higher price, in very small numbers and at the expense of other things like comfort, emissions maybe some durability. They cater to clients who 'want to be different'.

not bad..
like the paint job but the back of the car makes it look like an elephant stepped on the roof causing the back to warp

Actually i think the rear end is standard elise. They just added the rear spoiler lip to accentuate the raised arse look. Even the colour think is standard Lotus Elise, if anything slightly varied.

A bit difficult to look past the perspective angles of the shot. Artsy brochure images

" To build special vehicles for a small circle of people who have the taste for exclusivity and the finer things in life" - kahn design slogan... if you'd just go to their website first before blasting nonsense, you can understand why...
