BMW is reported to be working on an extraordinary split-boot version of the 5-series, one that is similar to the new Skoda Superb. Set to debut on the all-new evolution of the 5-series, which is due to be launched in 2010, Auto Express reported that the system is still officially under review, but is understood to be a key element of the new 5 series.
It’s not as if the current 5-series boot capacity of 520 liters was ever a problem, but the versatility created by using a hatchback system will add at least another 80 liters to its already gargantuan capacity, making it comparable to the X5 SUV. Though very handy, the eye still has got plenty of getting used to when it comes to a hatchback version of the immensely successful BMW 5-Series, it even sounds ugly but there’s no arguing against practicality.
