A1 Team Malaysia is set to take on one of its biggest challenges since winning at Zandvoort earlier this month. The team will be putting down their spanners and picking up paintbrushes for a new project as part of the A1 Team Malaysia Outreach programme, the team’s social responsibility arm.
The Malaysian A1GP team has agreed to help Shelter, providing a replacement roof at one of the charities’ care homes followed by repairing and redecorating the inside and outside of the building. The roof work will be carried out by specialists, with the additional work being undertaken by volunteers from the team and its supporters.
The mechanics, engineering, administrative and marketing personnel from A1 Team Malaysia will all be helping out with this project providing practical assistance in the repair and redecoration of the building, while the team’s commercial partners are lending additional support including help with transportation from Mayflower Travel, and drink supplies from Yeo’s and Spritzer water.
Azrai Razuan, Outreach Manager for A1 Team Malaysia, explains, “The Outreach programme with A1 Team Malaysia assists communities country-wide that are less privileged than others, helping in small, meaningful ways to change lives for the better. This latest project exemplifies this goal, with practical support from the team members to achieve this.
“As well as representatives from the team we’ve also had commitment from some of our Fanzone members who will be joining us with their paintbrushes and, just as importantly, bags of enthusiasm!”
The team’s Outreach programme was introduced last year with the first initiative undertaken at the SJK(T) Keruh school in the north of Perak at a town called Pengkalan Hulu. The team helped to refurbish the building and showed their ability to turn their hands from building race cars to painting walls. The second project for the team was supporting a fund-raising go-kart event at Shah Alam earlier this year. The team’s generosity, alongside that of other local companies and organisations, raised over RM15,000 in cash and kind.
Shelter, a registered welfare organization, was set up in June 1981. The charity is guided by the vision of giving children at risk a childhood and future by protecting guiding and healing them, and by building strong communities and loving families.
Shelter’s services and initiatives are aimed at providing care for abused, abandoned, neglected or at-risk children through our homes, and through counselling and therapy. It also aims to proactively raise public awareness on child abuse, parenting and youth issues, and equipping individuals with relevant skills to detect signs of abuse and to take action.
The A1 Team Malaysia Shelter Outreach initiative will take place over the weekend of 15 – 16 November in the OUG area of Kuala Lumpur. Volunteers interested in assisting with the project should contact A1 Team Malaysia at [email protected].
