The Mercedes SLS AMG GT is already a mean machine, packing up a grumpy 591-horsepower from the 6.2-liter V8 engine lying underneath the unusually long hood. But too much is never enough for the guys at the AMG tuning division, and there had been talks about a much powerful and serious version to hit the streets anytime soon. The wait is finally over as the in-house tuning outfit had just revealed their latest monster creation; the SLS AMG Black Series.

Goodyear Malaysia Organises Safety Workshop for St. John Ambulance Malaysia Community
Goodyear Malaysia donates tires to the SJAM community to be fitted onto SJAM ambulances.

Goodyear has just conducted their first St John Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) safety workshop in order to help promote the importance of road safety and tyre care for the SJAM community at SJAM-Pantai Selangor area.
Goodyear has been helping to support SJAM for the last seven years by donating tyres to be fitted onto the ambulances. But rather than just provide tyres this year, Goodyear has instead organised a workshop to help increase the importance of road safety and tyre care – where a total of 38 Goodyear tyres were provided, consisting of Duraplus and G28 Flexsteel tyres.

Dunlop tires launches new viral video showcasing extreme reverse driving
Viral videos are the way to go these days, it has been for a while now actually but its still a great way of sending over a message and nothing does that better than a short interesting video. Latest to jump on the viral wagon is Dunlop and the American tire manucturer wants u to take note that tires have their part to play in handling too.
In this first of a series of videos, Dunlop promotes the capabilities of its tires and this latest one features three yellow Citroen C1s doing some reverse driving in a car park using Dunlop StreetResponse tires. The car park reminds me of Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, where the bad guy drifts up a ramp up to the upper level, except this time it’s a reverse charge down the ramp. The stunt drivers do a pretty good job of pushing the tires to the limit, unless of course there’s plenty of fancy camera work at play here. Intelligent tyres capable of monitoring pressure, road conditions, and improve handling are just about 3 years away
I’m not sure how many people do this but I’m obsessed about knowing how my tyres are doing, they are four palm sized patches that make contact with the road and are therefore one of the most crucial elements of a car. I almost always check the pressure of all four wheels before and after a drive so I know how they behave and I know what to expect when going all out and committing myself to a corner. I just like to know, but the work is tedious, especially on a hot day. But those days could soon be over.
According to a report on Autocar, the days of intelligent tyres capable of monitoring themselves, road conditions and communicating with a vehicle’s electronic system are just about three years away. Read the rest of this entry »

Now Pirelli emerges as potential supplier to F1
The F1 tyre supplier war continues with Pirelli emerging as a third potential supplier of Formula One tryes in 2011.
Current tyre supplier Bridgestone has confirmed that it will no longer be supplying the series and will be leaving the sport. Willing to fill the vacancy is French tyre manufacturer Michelin, favoured by the FOTA group, but wants to be paid to supply tyres and wants other tyre suppliers to compete against. Avon potential supplier of tyres in Formula One next year
Avon has confirmed reports it is a potential supplier of tyres in formula one next year. The name entered the frame as a potential replacement for F1′s departing sole supplier Bridgestone in China last weekend, amid suggestions the teams group FOTA had agreed an in-principle deal with Michelin.
But with the famous French marque wanting to be paid and pushing for regulations allowing much lower profile tyres, it was rumoured Avon was favoured by Bernie Ecclestone and the smaller teams as a non-branded and cheaper option. Read the rest of this entry »
