Report: Pirelli to supply tyres to F1 in 2011 and beyond

Report have emerged online that Pirelli will be F1′s sole tyre supplier in 2011 and beyond. Italian media Autosprint and Italiaracing say that Pirelli has been selected by the teams and F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone to replace Bridgestone who’s leaving the sport by season’s end.

Now Pirelli emerges as potential supplier to F1

The F1 tyre supplier war continues with Pirelli emerging as a third potential supplier of Formula One tryes in 2011.

Current tyre supplier Bridgestone has confirmed that it will no longer be supplying the series and will be leaving the sport. Willing to fill the vacancy is French tyre manufacturer Michelin, favoured by the FOTA group, but wants to be paid to supply tyres and wants other tyre suppliers to compete against. Avon potential supplier of tyres in Formula One next year

Avon has confirmed reports it is a potential supplier of tyres in formula one next year. The name entered the frame as a potential replacement for F1′s departing sole supplier Bridgestone in China last weekend, amid suggestions the teams group FOTA had agreed an in-principle deal with Michelin.

But with the famous French marque wanting to be paid and pushing for regulations allowing much lower profile tyres, it was rumoured Avon was favoured by Bernie Ecclestone and the smaller teams as a non-branded and cheaper option. Read the rest of this entry »

By Bridgestone: 26th February 2009: Bridgestone Motorsport announce tyre specifications. Bridgestone, the Official Tyre Supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship, is pleased to announce the compound allocations of Potenza tyres for the first five rounds of the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship. This season sees slick tyres make a return to Formula One after eleven seasons of grooved dry tyres.

Slick tyres mean that softer rubber compounds can be used, meaning more mechanical grip is available for competitors. This change is significant for teams and drivers and is accompanied by considerable changes to the car aerodynamic packages, designed to reduce downforce and stimulate overtaking. There is a change in tyre allocation rationale too. For the past two seasons, Bridgestone has brought two consecutive compounds from its range of four rubber compounds to each event.
