Team Petronas Syntium: Race Report and Team Statement

The 10th edition of the Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) race on Saturday proved to be a triumphant one for the PETRONAS Syntium Team. The team’s six drivers in the two BMW Z4M Coupes completed the gruelling 12-hour race with a memorable and exciting 1-2 finish.
In addition to winning the race, the trio of Tatsuya Kataoka, Manabu Orido and Malaysian youngster Johan Adzmi in the #28 car also took home the honours of being the overall champions. Finishing in a valiant second place were teammates Masataka Yanagida, Nobuteru Taniguchi and Fariqe Hairuman in the #15 BMW Z4M Coupe. Read more
2009 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race – Qualifying Results and Pictures

Defending champion team Porsche Club Singapore is set to start the tenth edition of the Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER) tomorrow 8 August, on pole position, ahead of 43 cars.
“Good effort by the team, the car is fantastic,” said Darryl O’Young. “I can see the Mosler is going to be the biggest trouble for us this year but it’s a 12 hour race and the key to the car is its reliability.”

Kuala Lumpur, 7th August 2009 – As preparations heat up for the 10th edition of the Merdeka Millennium Endurance race on Saturday, the six PETRONAS Syntium Team drivers took time out to express their competitive spirit without actually driving.
Prior to the MME free practice yesterday, the trio from the team’s BMW Z4M Coupe No. 15 –Fariqe Hairuman, Masataka Yanagida and Nobuteru Taniguchi took on their teammates in the No. 28 car – Tatsuya Kataoka, Manabu Orido and Johan Adzmi in a game of volleyball. 2009 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race Trophy Unveiling – MMER faster in its “tin”th year

In traditional metal gifts, gold represents 50 years, for 25 years its silver but not many people know that ten years is represented with tin, as in “tin” years.
Fitting correlation to the Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race MMER as this year it’s the tenth anniversary of the biggest race in South East Asia.
This year’s trophy was inspired by a car’s speedometer, with the three parts representing three drives working in sync to win the race.

Is the team still using the same car? I heard that this is actually the Japanese spec (version)? Is there any difference?
A: Yes, this is the car that Eddy & I drove last year. Rueben is driving it for the 1st time.
R: It is a little different. I would say it is more refined and actually a little quicker. Our car is good, no complaints.
Eddy, are you satisfied with the program and test run today?
E: I am satisfied with the whole day’s program. But I think we need to do a little more research on the tires from today onwards. The only thing I am not satisfied with is the qualifying tire. Read more

Video: J’s Racing Honda S2000 vs WRC Mitsubishi Lancer EVO

The tuning scene is never short on comparisons and here’s one comparing a 2005 WRC Mitsubishi Lancer against a Honda S2000 tuned by J’s Racing (the same guys that took top honours at the 2008 MME race). Keiji Tsuchiya is at the wheel of the S2000 but I can’t make out who’s at the wheel of the Lancer. Now I actually didn’t think that these cars could be compared at all, it took me by suprise. Turn up those speakers and get rid of that gf, just for a bit. Read more
Colin McRae Tribute Convoy: 1,100 Subaru’s Stretch For 50km

As some Malaysians raced in the local MME and celebrated independence day this past weekend, rally fans over at the UK celebrated the life of one of the greatest rally drivers of all time, Colin McRae.
